Hi There.

Hi there, we’re Suzanne and Mal, the pair behind Heaney Brewery. Our love for great beer began on our travels—whether it was sipping crisp Helles in Munich or discovering bold, hoppy IPAs in California. Back home we couldn’t help but notice the options here were… underwhelming. At the same time, The Wood—our family farm in Bellaghy—was in need of a new lease of life, so starting a brewery? It just made sense.

Building Our Brewery

In 2015 Mal took the leap and left his job in sales for an entirely new career path; getting involved in the fledgling Boundary Brewery in Belfast. There he was able to hone his brewing skills until the dream to have his own brewery at The Wood became a reality in 2019. The Wood has been in Suzanne’s family for generations, her dad, Hugh Heaney (yes, Seamus Heaney’s brother), farmed the land until he sadly passed in 2021. Today, it’s home not only to the brewery but to our busy family of three kids. Life here inspires everything we do, reminding us of the value of community, connection, and those small, meaningful moments.

Hold The Pause

At Heaney Brewery, we see beer as so much more than just a drink. It’s about connection—those moments where time slows down, stories are shared, and the world feels a little lighter. Whether it’s a quiet pint with a friend or a lively toast with a group, beer has this way of bringing people together and letting us hold onto the pause.
This idea of finding meaning in the everyday is personal to us. It’s something Seamus Heaney built his poetry around - turning the ordinary into something extraordinary. Living and working here at The Wood, where the Heaney family roots run deep, keeps us grounded in that same legacy of finding magic in the simplest things.

Thanks

And honestly, it all comes back to you - our customers. Your support means everything to us. Whether you’re cracking open a can at home or raising a glass at a celebration, we’re so grateful to be part of your moments. Brewing beer is our passion, but it’s the people who enjoy it that make it all worthwhile. Thank you for being part of our story.
Suzanne and Mal.
